Lincoln Aviator: Roof Opening Panel / Removal and Installation - Roof Opening Panel Shield
Removal
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Remove the roof opening panel frame.
Refer to: Roof Opening Panel Frame (501-17 Roof Opening Panel, Removal and Installation).

Remove the front cross bar from the couplers on both sides.
Hold the cross bar with both hands and pull forward and twist down gently.

NOTE:
Fabric should in tension.
Now holding cross bar in your hand, disengage the crossbar from fabric by sliding the crossbar sideways.

Release fabric to lose tension of roof opening panel shield.
-
Remove the rubber wire connection.
-
Remove the screw.
-
Remove the roof opening panel shield.

NOTE:
Observe the seamed outer edges and plastic guide
clips in the side frame rails during the removal of the shield. Make
sure they are routed correctly during installation.
Route the shield out of the side frame rails.

Push the retaining ball.
-
Lift only enough to fully release the retaining ball
from the frame and remove the roof opening panel shield.
Installation

Install the new roof opening panel by inserting the retaining ball.

Install the screw.
-
Install the rubber wire connection.
-
Hold the cross bar tight and remove the safety pin.

Pull crossbar with fabric forward under the tension bar.

NOTICE:
Make sure the roof opening panel shield plastic
guide strip is routed into the side frame rails correctly before the
cross bar is connected to the cable mechanisms or damage to the roof
opening panel components may occur during power operation of the shield
When installing the shield, use an assistant to insert
the plastic guide strips and seamed edges into the side frame rails
evenly on both sides.

Hold the fabric in tension.

Now holding cross bar in your hand, engage the crossbar to the fabric by sliding the crossbar.

Mount the front cross bar to the couplers on both sides.
Hold the cross bar with both hands and pull inward and twist up gently to install the cross bar.

Install the roof opening panel frame.
Refer to: Roof Opening Panel Frame (501-17 Roof Opening Panel, Removal and Installation).
Removal
Remove the moonroof.
Refer to: Roof Opening Panel Frame (501-17 Roof Opening Panel, Removal and Installation).
To remove the seal, start at the splice joint at center
rear area and pull in the direction shown along the seal path instead of
pulling straight out at 90 degrees...
