Removal
NOTICE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely
important. Any foreign material, including any material created while
cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages
or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Remove the retainers and the RH side engine compartment cover.
-
Remove the retainers and the LH side engine compartment cover.
-
Remove the bolts and the suspension support bar.
Torque:
22 lb.ft (30 Nm)
-
Remove the following items:
-
Remove the LH air cleaner outlet pipe.
Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe LH (303-12 Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 3.0L EcoBoost/3.0L EcoBoost – Hybrid (BQ), Removal and Installation).

Remove the throttle body.
Refer to: Throttle Body (303-04A Fuel Charging and Controls - 3.0L EcoBoost/3.0L EcoBoost – Hybrid (BQ), Removal and Installation).

Disconnect the quick release coupling and remove the EVAP tube.
-
Disconnect the crankcase pressure sensor electrical connector.
-
Disconnect the quick release coupling and remove the crankcase vent tube.
-
-
Remove the coolant pipe bracket retaining bolts.
Torque:
97 lb.in (11 Nm)
-
Remove the intake manifold bracket retaining bolts.
Torque:
97 lb.in (11 Nm)
-
Remove the oil level indicator.
-
If equipped, disconnect the vacuum tube quick release coupling.
-
Remove the LH ignition coil-on-plugs.
Refer to: Ignition Coil-On-Plug (303-07A Engine Ignition - 3.0L EcoBoost, Removal and Installation).

Remove the bolt and the ground wire.
Torque:
89 lb.in (10 Nm)
-
Lift up the insulator.
-
Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connectors.
-
Detach the wiring harness retainers and position the wiring harness aside.
-
-
Release the clamp and disconnect the vacuum tube.
-
Remove the vacuum solenoid bolts.
Torque:
62 lb.in (7 Nm)
-
Detach the retainers and position the vacuum tube aside.
-
Loosen the fasteners and remove the valve cover.
-
-
Remove and discard the gaskets.
-
Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.
-
Inspect the spark plug seals. Remove any damaged seals using the special tools.
Use Special Service Tool: 205-153

Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface.
Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation (303-00 Engine System - General Information, General Procedures).
Installation
-
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
-
NOTE:
Installation of new seals is only required if damaged seals were removed.
Using the special tools, install new spark plug tube seals.
Use Special Service Tool: 205-153

VCT Spark Plug Tube Seal Remover and Installer.

NOTICE:
If the valve cover is not installed and the
fasteners tightened within 10 minutes, the sealant must be removed and
the sealing area cleaned.
Apply an 8 mm (0.31 in) diameter drop of Motorcraft®
High Performance Engine RTV Silicone to the engine front
cover-to-cylinder head joints.
Material: Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone
/ TA-357

Install the valve cover and tighten the bolts in sequence.
Torque:
89 lb.in (10 Nm)
