Visual Inspection and Pre-checks

  • If the selection is available on the scan tool (Body>Security>Phone as a Key Functions), make sure the passive entry/passive start feature is enabled. If disabled, the vehicle only starts with the key in the backup starting location.
A1 VERIFY DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE)
  • Turn off mobile device bluetooth.
  • Clear DTC's
  • Rerun RFA module self-test

Are the DTC's still present?
Yes GO to A2
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by invalid signal from the bluethooth.

REFER to: Bluetooth Rear Exterior Antenna (419-01C Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) - Vehicles With: Phone as a Key, Removal and Installation). TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, GO to A8
No REPAIR the circuit.

A8 CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA (REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR) MODULE OPERATION
  • Disconnect and inspect the RFA module connector. C3860 .
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connectors or terminals, clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the RFA module connector and make sure it seats and latches correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM, or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new RFA module.

No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. Address the root cause of any connector or pin issues.

  • Reconnect the RFA module connector and make sure it seats and latches correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM, or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new RFA module.

H4 CHECK LINCOLN WAY APPLICATION FOR FUNCTIONALITY
  • Ensure that the following conditions are present:
    • The installed Lincoln Way Mobile™ application software version level matches the latest software version level available.
    • Bluetooth enabled.
    • Approved and supported mobile devices.
    • Correct vehicle selected.
    • The customer is logged in to the Lincoln Way Mobile™ application with the login created from the application.
    • The vehicle is linked with an active and valid Lincoln Way Mobile™ customer access key.
    • The customer removed and re-installed the Lincoln Way app correctly.
    • The vehicle is within bluetooth antenna range.

For vehicles with navigation, the customer’s saved destinations (home, favorites, and previous) are erased. For vehicles with a RFA module and TCU, any devices paired with the Lincoln Way Mobile or MyLincoln Mobile™ phone application will be deleted.

NOTE: The customer will need to get a new customer access key prior to verifying reset is complete and functional.

An improperly grounded scan tool will corrupt the network message traffic. Disconnect the diagnostic scan tool cable from the remote DLC.
  • Inspect the remote DLC pins 3, 4, 5, 11 and 16 for spreading or damage using a flex probe with the dimensions: 1.5mm width x .080mm thickness, Rotunda probe 300-08039 (violet).

L14 VERIFY VEHICLE EQUIPMENT - RFA (REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR)
  • Inspect the vehicle for a RFA.

Is the vehicle equipped with a RFA?
Yes GO to L15
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.

L15 CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE RFA (REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR) DISABLED

NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior network test results.

  • Disconnect BCM fuse 20 (5A)..
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the network test.

Do all other HS-CAN4 modules pass the network test?
Yes INSTALL the removed fuse.
REFER to: Communications Network (418-00 Module Communications Network, Diagnosis and Testing).
Go to Pinpoint Test AY.
No INSTALL the removed fuse. The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.

L16 CHECK THE APIM (SYNC MODULE) FOR CORRECT OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect all the APIM connector. C2383 .
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the APIM connector. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern,

No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.

L17 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) FOR CORRECT OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect the GWM connector C2431..
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the GWM connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new GWM.
REFER to: Gateway Module A (GWM) (418-00 Module Communications Network, Removal and Installation).
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.

L18 CHECK THE TCU (TELEMATIC CONTROL UNIT MODULE) FOR CORRECT OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect all the TCU connectors. C4803A .
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the TCU connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new TCU.
REFER to: Telematics Control Unit (TCU) Module (415-00 Information and Entertainment System - General Information, Removal and Installation).
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.

L19 CHECK THE RFA (REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR) MODULE FOR CORRECT OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect the RFA module connector. C3860 .
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the RFA connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new RFA.

BCM B155E:00 Incorrect Response from Immobilizer SubControl Module: No Sub Type Information Set by the BCM when the Phone as a Key function has not been enabled.

Possible Sources

  • Phone as a Key function not enabled
  • BCM
M1 CHECK THAT PHONE AS A KEY FUNCTION IS ENABLED
  • Using the diagnostic scan tool, navigate to the Multi-Module screen.
  • Click on Disable/Enable Phone as a Key.
  • ENABLE Phone as a Key.
  • Using the diagnostic scan tool, clear all DTCs and run self-test

Is code B155E:00 present?
Yes GO to M2
No The system is operating correctly at this time. ADDRESS any other DTCs that may be present.

M2 CHECK THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) FOR CORRECT OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect the BCM connectors. .
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM.
